OKIN’S COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
Our projects are currently focussed on the following points, which are closely related to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

HEALTH AND WELLBEING
We are committed to healthy bread. The Clean Label (no additives or preservatives) philosophy serves as the basis for our understanding of Health and Innovation.
In the short term, our projects are focussed on developing recipes that use flours sourced from top quality wheat grown with fewer negative impacts on the environment and the health of consumers.
We provide a full range of eco-certified bread. Our EFI family is our response to consumers with special nutritional requirements.

GREEN ENERGY
All of our bread is produced using renewable energy. As part of our goal to improve the sustainability of our business and reduce energy consumption, we are committed to renewable energy, as it offers interesting benefits such as carbon footprint reduction.

INTELLIGENT USE OF ENERGY
Our new energy management and dynamic control system employs the latest technologies such as sub-metering and energy monitoring to optimise cooling processes, which account for most energy consumption at our production plant in Zumaia.
During the first semester of 2019, we produced 16% more bread with the same kWh.

KM 0 AND SUSTAINABLE RAW MATERIALS
At Okin, we believe it is necessary to consume local products to reduce transport, preserve the environment and support local businesses. Working with local farmers is fundamental to ensuring the optimisation of the value chain for our strategic raw materials, mainly flour. Which is why we purchase nearly all of our raw materials and production components, such as cardboard, from suppliers located within a radius of approximately 250 km. On the other hand, we can proudly state that all of the cardboard we use is recycled.

CARBON FOOTPRINT REDUCTION
To reaffirm our company's commitment to the environment we have joined the Lean&Green (AECOC) initiative.
Under this initiative, we have committed to producing an action plan to reduce the carbon footprint of our logistics processes by 20% within a maximum of 5 years.
